Great & Small

Get up close and personal with your wild neighbors and learn all about their natural history. This program focuses on animals that live here in Virginia and interesting facts and stories about their lives. VA SOLs are covered in this program.

Have you ever wondered what our wild friends do when the temperatures start to dip and winter weather sets in? Learn how animals migrate, hibernate, and adapt to survive the harsh winter weather. Ambassadors may include a turtle, snake, opossum, or raptor.

Every animal in our area has a unique and important place in its habitat but many animals are denounced because they are misunderstood. Let us introduce you to some of these "misfits" so you dispel the myths about these amazing creatures. VA SOLs are covered in this program.

Turtles are totally awesome! This new program offers an interactive educational experience that teaches about the importance of multiple species of native turtles. Find out about the traits that distinguish them from each other and that have allowed their species to survive for thousands of years!

An entire world comes to life after you go to sleep. Find out what special adaptations many of our area's nocturnal animals possess to successfully navigate life in the dark. VA SOLs are covered in this program. This is an onsite-only program.

This exciting program highlights the center's birds of prey. Meet our amazing raptor ambassadors at the BRWC Wildlife Walk while their keepers teach you about their husbandry and natural history. You can find out how these incredible birds hunt and survive in the wild, and what you can do to ensure their continued survival. This is an onsite-only program.

Education Program Request Form

  • A BRWC educator will arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled start time of the program.
  • Education programs last either 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes, including time for questions at the end.
  • If we are to present more than one program at any given place and time there will be an extra fee that can be determined per event through phone or email conversation.
  • If you would like a longer program or a specialized program extra fees will be discussed and applied.
  • We believe in providing our animals the choice to participate in their daily lives. If an animal does not want to participate on a given day, we will make an appropriate substitution.
  • Currently, we can only provide programming within the state of Virginia, either within one hour of our center or directly at our center located at 106 Island Farm Lane, Boyce, VA 22620.
  • Due to fire code regulations, for groups over 30 coming to our center, please be aware that we will have to split the group into smaller portions. Part of the group will do a portion inside, then switch with another portion outside. We ask that you limit group sizes to no more than 60-70 people. If your group exceeds this number, we may need to come to you instead.
